Camera strap, shows signs of aging. Black particles are flaking off.

I received this as I was told it was no longer going to be used.
The batteries that were in the camera when I received it were corroded, and there is a few corrosion on the metal parts of the battery compartment.
I tried putting in batteries, but the power did not turn on.
